Esenyurt

Esenyurt is a district located in the European part of Istanbul. From the south it is bounded by E5 highway, from the north – by TEM highway, from the east – by lake Kyuchyukchekmece, and from the west – by lake Byuyukchekmedzhe.  The area of the district is 2,770 hectares.

Until early 19th century on the site of the district there was a farm owned by Ekremu Omer Pasha. Then, on these lands, an Eshkinoz settlement was formed, which in 1967 was renamed to Esenyurt. Migrants from Bulgaria and Romania settled there.

Today Esenyurt is a fast-developing area with modern housing complexes and convenient infrastructure: there are many shopping centers, a city hospital, the University of Esenyurt, and 10 acres of parkland.
